Welcome to English and History at Sierra School!
I am Anne Cuevas, and this is my third year teaching here at Sierra School, and my 17th year teaching secondary school and I am excited to say we are off to a great start this fall! In High School English, we have begun reading the novel The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan and are learning to write analysis of narrative fiction; While in U.S. Government we are beginning to redefine what it means to be an American and are continuing to study the structure and function of the Government. This year we also have a strong focus on current events in politics and technology. Junior High will be studying Ancient History this year which they are very eager about! We’ve already begun the first of many important and poignant novels which we will be reading in literature circles this year.
Last year, our High School students studied Shakespeare then performed scenes from Julius Caesar for the entire school. Our Junior High history students wrote and performed their own version of “Hamilton” in which they wrote and performed their own lyrics based on historical research of the Civil War. I am so looking forward to what creative endeavors our students will embark on this year!
