Frequently asked questions

The following are questions that we are often asked. If you have any additional questions please contact us or better yet, sign up for a meeting with our Principal and enjoy a tour of our school.

What is the teacher/student ratio in elementary school?

In our K-5 program our maximum class size is 20 students. We keep a very low teacher/student ratio that is approximately 1:10. The ratio can be as low as 1:7 in our K/1 classroom.

Are you an accredited school?

Sierra School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Our accreditation encompasses all of our programs including the Elementary program, Middle school, High school and our International program.

Do you require uniforms?

We do not require uniforms, but we do have a dress code that can be found in the Student/Parent Handbook.

Do you have extended care?

We have extended care available both before and after regular school hours. Before school care is between 7:00am and 8:45am and is included in the tuition. After school care is available on a drop in basis for $20.00 per day and is between 3:15pm and 6:00pm. Extended care provides the students with time to do homework, a snack and a chance to participate in games, art and recreational activities. Extended care is for K-6 students.

Do you provide care when school is not in session?

We provide Holiday Care from 7:00am-6:00pm during most school vacations. We are closed during the Thanksgiving vacation and between Christmas and the start of school in the new year.

Do you have a hot lunch program?

Yes, we have a nutritious hot lunch program available through Taste Nutrition. Several choices are available each day including a vegetarian item. Orders are conveniently placed and purchased online.

Are there opportunities for parent participation?

We ask that our K-5 parents help with our monthly field trip program by driving on three trips per year. Parents can participate in our Sierra Family Association, volunteer to be a room parent or help with special projects in the classroom.

Do you have Special Subject Teachers?

Do you have Special Subject Teachers?Special subject teachers teach Spanish, Music and Drama, Art, PE, Dance, and Computer Technology. Our 6th -12th grade program is departmentalized with teachers specially trained in their field.

Are there any enrichment classes available after school?

Are there any enrichment classes available after school?We offer a variety of enrichment classes including Dance, Art, Engineering Fundamentals, Soccer, Science and Martial Arts.

Do you offer Summer School?

We offer an eight week program that combines morning academics and afternoon recreation for grades K-6. We also offer a six week program for our International students.

Do you offer tutoring?

Yes, only for our Sierra students. Individual sessions can be arranged according to need.

Can your school provide an I-20 for International students?

Yes, we are designated by the Student Exchange Visitor Program to issue the I-20 (F-1 Visa).

Can students in any grade apply for an I-20?

Any International student in K-12 can apply for an I-20. However, K-6 students must be proficient in English. We have a wonderful English program available for our 7-12 grade students. Classes range from beginning to advanced ESL (English as a Second Language) with the goal of transferring to our mainstream high school program.

Is Sierra School affiliated with any religious organization?

No, we are a non-sectarian school. Our students come from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
