Welcome to K/1! My name is Leigh Monistere, I am the K/1 teacher at Sierra School. This is my third year at Sierra School. I love getting to be a part of the community here at Sierra. Teaching K/1 is a joy and full of many adventures. Our classroom is a vibrant part of our school! We learn and have a lot of fun in K/1!
Prior to teaching at Sierra School, I taught first grade for several years. I graduated with my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi College and a Masters in Education with an Emphasis in Technology from Belhaven University. I have a Clear Multi- Subject Teacher Credential and last year I completed University of Southern California's Reading and Literacy program and have a certification as a reading specialist.
Bindi Aibara is my wonderful classroom assistant. Bindi has served as an aide at Sierra School for over 10 years! Bindi has a great relationship with our students and truly bring out the best in them. We have a great team in our classroom!
The first years of elementary school are foundational. During kindergarten and first grade, your child will grow socially and academically. As the teacher, I provide instruction based upon your child's learning level. This instruction should challenge your child to grow to his/her fullest potential. Your child will engage in learning activities that will encourage them to grow as creative, critical thinkers. Our classroom includes many opportunities for students to collaborate with each other to help them grow as communicators and collaborators. We seek to make learning relevant by making connections to real life, to encourage students to become life-long learners.
Exciting K/1 Activities
